Suspected armed bandits have reportedly attacked Sundu and Yanoko communities in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting residents during separate raids that have heightened fears of rising insecurity in the region.

According to local sources, the attackers first stormed Sundu village, where at least one resident was reportedly abducted during the raid. The bandits later moved to Yanoko community, where another resident—a woman—was also kidnapped.

Residents said the armed attackers carried out the operation under the cover of darkness, a tactic frequently used by bandit groups operating in rural communities across northern Nigeria.

Security analyst Bakatsine noted that such attacks continue to occur due to gaps in rural security coverage and weaknesses in local intelligence systems that make it easier for criminals to strike vulnerable communities.

He explained that many rural areas lack effective early-warning mechanisms and adequate security presence, allowing attackers to exploit poor communication networks and limited policing capacity.

Local residents have expressed growing fear following the latest incident, warning that bandit attacks are gradually spreading to areas previously considered relatively safe in Kano State.

Community members are now calling on the Kano State government and security agencies to strengthen protection in rural communities and improve surveillance to prevent further attacks.

As of the time of reporting, the Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the attack, and attempts by journalists to reach the police spokesperson were unsuccessful.

The latest incident adds to the growing security concerns across parts of northern Nigeria, where bandit groups continue to carry out kidnappings, raids, and attacks on rural communities.
