Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to meet King Charles III during an upcoming visit to the United Kingdom, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting is expected to take place on March 16 in London and will mark the third time Carney and King Charles have met since Carney became prime minister about a year ago.

Carney previously met the British monarch during an audience in London in March 2025, and again when King Charles visited Canada in May 2025. During that visit, the King delivered the speech from the throne in Canada’s Parliament, an event that carried symbolic significance amid tensions related to U.S. trade policies and discussions about Canadian sovereignty.

International Trip And NATO Engagement

Before arriving in the United Kingdom, Carney is expected to travel to Norway, where he will observe the NATO Cold Response military exercises and participate in a Nordic-Canada Council summit aimed at strengthening relations with Nordic countries.

While in London, the Canadian prime minister is also scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between Canada and the United Kingdom.

Discussions With The King

The meeting between Carney and King Charles comes shortly after the monarch met with Indigenous leaders from Canada, including representatives from the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations. During those discussions, Indigenous leaders said the King expressed concern about issues including the possibility of Alberta separation.

When asked whether he would raise the topic with the King, Carney declined to confirm the agenda, saying there would likely be many subjects for discussion between them. He added that the monarch has historically shown strong interest in Indigenous rights and issues affecting Indigenous communities.

European Vacation After Official Meetings

Following his diplomatic engagements in Norway and the United Kingdom, Carney is expected to take a short vacation in Europe during the March break before returning to Canada.

The prime minister defended the timing of the trip, noting that his cabinet ministers continue to handle government responsibilities and remain actively engaged on key national and international issues.

Carney emphasized that his government relies on a strong team of ministers to manage ongoing matters, while he remains connected and available during the international visit.
