One person has been confirmed dead following a fatal rollover crash in Saskatoon, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to reports, the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday on the westbound off-ramp to Highway 16 from Idylwyld Drive. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 3:00 a.m., where they discovered a vehicle overturned and resting on its roof.
Authorities confirmed that four occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. One individual, identified as a 24-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others—two men and one woman in their early twenties—were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency responders reported that several occupants had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash, while another had to be extricated using specialized equipment, highlighting the severity of the collision.
The Saskatoon Police Service has confirmed that its Collision Analyst Unit is actively investigating the incident. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted, with multiple lanes and ramps closed to allow for emergency response and evidence collection.
The fatal crash was one of two tragic incidents reported in the city over the Easter weekend, with another death recorded in a separate house fire, underscoring a difficult period for the community.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the rollover, and no further details have been released regarding contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, or impairment.
