Ghanaian security authorities have arrested 48 individuals suspected of involvement in online fraud, romance scams, and other cyber-related criminal activities in a coordinated intelligence-led operation on the outskirts of Accra, officials have confirmed. The operation, which took place in the Dawhenya area of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency late on December 23, 2025, was led by the Cyber Security Authority in cooperation with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, highlighting Ghana’s intensified efforts to secure its digital and financial environment against organised cybercrime.
According to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, the suspects — believed to be Nigerian nationals based on preliminary interrogation — comprised 46 males and two females allegedly connected to a range of illicit online activities, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illegal online gold trading.
During the raid, law enforcement officials seized multiple electronic devices believed to have been used to facilitate the criminal operations, including 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, a Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers, which are expected to support further investigations.
The minister described the arrests as part of a broader campaign of “intelligence-led surgical strikes” against cybercrime syndicates, asserting that Ghana remains open to legitimate enterprise while maintaining a hostile stance toward digital criminality. The detained suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue and authorities work to dismantle organised cybercrime networks operating within the country.
