The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight suspected agitators linked to the self‑styled group known as the “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba Nation” following disturbances on Christmas Day that disrupted public peace and led to alleged assaults on police officers, authorities confirmed.

According to a statement by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects were apprehended at the Temidire Junction and Under‑Bridge areas of Sango‑Ota, where they had reportedly mounted illegal roadblocks, set bonfires, and obstructed vehicular movement, causing significant traffic disruption.

Police said the group not only disrupted the free flow of traffic but also engaged in unlawful assembly and attacked officers deployed to restore order, prompting a swift security response in which the eight suspects were detained after the gathering was dispersed.

Items seized from the suspects include a Toyota Dyna vehicle allegedly used to transport members of the group, broadcast equipment, a carton of flags and shirts imprinted with separatist slogans, and banners bearing their messages and manifesto, police added.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo warned that the command would not tolerate activities that endanger public safety or assaults on law enforcement personnel, urging residents to remain law‑abiding and to report any suspicious movements to the appropriate emergency lines as investigations continue and charges are prepared for court.
