Nearly Half of Canadians Support Ending Temporary Foreign Worker Program

A recent Abacus Data poll reveals that 44% of Canadians are in favor of scrapping the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program, highlighting growing public debate over the nation’s immigration policies.

Support for ending the program is notably stronger among younger Canadians aged 18–44 and residents of the Prairie provinces. Conversely, Québec and Atlantic Canada show the lowest levels of support.

Despite the public sentiment, Prime Minister Mark Carney has dismissed calls to end the TFW program, emphasizing that it continues to play a role in Canada’s broader immigration strategy.

The poll underscores ongoing discussions about balancing labor market needs with domestic workforce opportunities and the role of temporary foreign workers in Canada’s economy.
