Quebec’s Aluminum Industry Set to Receive Major Federal Tariff Relief

Innovation Minister Mélanie Joly announced that Quebec’s aluminum sector is poised to receive “hundreds of millions of dollars” from a $5 billion federal tariff relief fund.

The funding aims to help the industry remain competitive on the global stage, particularly in light of high tariffs imposed by the United States. Quebec’s aluminum producers have faced increasing financial pressure due to international trade tensions, and the relief package is intended to safeguard jobs and sustain production.

Minister Joly emphasized that supporting key industries like aluminum is crucial for Canada’s economic resilience, ensuring Canadian companies can continue to compete in the global market despite external trade challenges.
