KANANASKIS, Alberta — Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations concluded their summit in Canada with a renewed call for a ceasefire in Lebanon and cautious support for diplomatic progress surrounding Iran’s nuclear negotiations, signalling a broader effort to reduce instability across the Middle East.

The joint position emerged after discussions among leaders from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and representatives of the European Union during meetings focused heavily on regional security, energy stability and global economic uncertainty.

In a final communiqué released following the summit, G7 leaders urged all parties involved in the Lebanon conflict to pursue an immediate ceasefire and expand humanitarian access to affected civilian populations. The statement emphasized support for diplomatic engagement aimed at reducing regional escalation and restoring long-term stability.

The leaders also welcomed signs of movement in negotiations involving Iran, describing recent diplomatic developments as an opportunity to lower tensions and prevent further deterioration of security conditions in the region. While the statement stopped short of endorsing any finalized agreement, leaders indicated support for continued dialogue and a negotiated framework.

Officials attending the summit stressed that diplomacy remained the preferred path for addressing concerns around Iran’s nuclear activities and regional influence. Several leaders argued that sustained engagement would be more effective than allowing the situation to escalate into broader confrontation.

The discussions reflected growing international concern that instability in the Middle East could have consequences beyond the region, including pressure on global energy markets, trade routes and humanitarian systems.

Canadian officials hosting the summit framed the discussions as part of a wider effort to strengthen international coordination at a time of overlapping geopolitical crises.

While differences remain among member countries over how quickly diplomatic efforts should move forward and what conditions should accompany any future agreement, the summit’s outcome suggested broad consensus that negotiations remain open and that de-escalation efforts should continue.

The G7 statement is expected to shape diplomatic conversations in the coming weeks as regional governments and international partners assess the next steps in ceasefire discussions and ongoing negotiations with Iran.
