The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Sunday welcomed a delegation of U.S. lawmakers to Abuja as both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on security, counter-terrorism and regional stability.
Ribadu said the visit was part of a follow-up to high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., aimed at advancing shared priorities. The meeting included lawmakers such as Riley Moore, Mario Díaz‑Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin and Juan Ciscomani, alongside the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills.
According to Ribadu, discussions centred on expanding counter-terrorism collaboration, improving regional security, and strengthening the broader Nigeria–U.S. strategic security partnership — a move described as “timely and necessary” in light of Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.
The U.S. delegation’s presence underscores Washington’s growing engagement with Nigeria. Ribadu expressed optimism that the visit will deepen trust, encourage intelligence sharing, and lead to concrete support for Nigeria’s efforts to combat insurgency, banditry and other violent threats.
