TORONTO, Canada — Two women are in life-threatening condition after a serious early morning collision involving a passenger vehicle and a transport truck on Highway 401 in Toronto, prompting a major emergency response and an ongoing investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The crash occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Weston Road. According to the OPP, the collision involved a transport truck and a passenger vehicle carrying two female occupants. Emergency crews, including paramedics, firefighters, and police officers, responded quickly to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.
Both women inside the passenger vehicle sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a Toronto trauma centre, where they remain in life-threatening condition. Authorities have not released their identities, pending notification of family members.
Police have not disclosed what led to the collision, and investigators are working to determine the sequence of events. The driver of the transport truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No injuries involving the truck driver were immediately reported.
