Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Declares South-East Nigeria Safe for Christmas — Calls on Igbos Home

The IPOB has declared the South-East region of Nigeria safe for the upcoming festive season and urged Igbos at home and abroad to return for Christmas celebrations. The declaration was made in a statement released Sunday by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful. The organisation insisted that despite years of alleged “sponsored instability,” the South-East remains “Nigeria’s most tranquil area.

IPOB said its security arm, Eastern Security Network (ESN), along with IPOB volunteers, would ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the yuletide. The group dismissed recent reports circulating online about kidnappings for example footage said to show an abduction on the Owerri–Aba Expressway as recycled old videos, describing them as part of “exaggerated media efforts” meant to portray the region as unsafe.

Assuring Igbos and friends of the region of security and hospitality, IPOB stated:

“Thus, we urge Ndigbo and their friends wishing to visit Ala Igbo this Christmas to return home and experience the warmth of the Land of the Rising Sun.

The group also appealed to potential travellers to ignore fear-mongering and come home with confidence, urging them to consider bringing investments back to the region.

At the same time, IPOB reaffirmed its stance that the region’s security is best guaranteed by the people themselves, warning that “criminal elements and their collaborators” should steer clear of the South-East during the festive season.
