According to Kanunta, Kanu insists his conviction was “without legal basis,” arguing that the law used to prosecute him has been repealed. He also claims his final written address, which emphasized his right to a fair hearing, was never considered by the court.
Kanu’s brother further alleges that key pieces of evidence used by the court were never part of the formal charge sheet and were not introduced during trial. He raised particular concern about the court’s reliance on struck-out charges from a previous judge, calling this a “significant procedural flaw.
In his message to the public, Kanu reportedly urged Nigerian magistrates, judges, and lawyers to review the judgment carefully, warning that its errors could undermine constitutional principles. He thanked all his supporters, saying: “Injustice to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is injustice everywhere … I remain thankful for all your support, prayers, and your good thoughts.”
Kanu’s reaction comes after he was sentenced on November 20, 2025, to life in prison on terrorism charges related to his “sit-at-home” order in the South-East, along with other concurrent terms.
His legal team has already vowed to appeal.
