Beirut — The Israeli military has confirmed carrying out an airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, targeting a Hezbollah militant, according to its statement.
The strike, which struck a main road in the Haret Hreik neighbourhood, wounded more than two dozen people, medical sources in Beirut told Reuters.
While Israel has not publicly named who exactly was hit, earlier reporting identifies the target as Haytham Ali Tabatabai, believed to be Hezbollah’s acting chief of staff. Israeli officials have said Tabatabai was instrumental in rebuilding Hezbollah’s military capabilities.
This marks the first significant strike on Beirut since a truce was struck between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024, a deal meant to halt active hostilities.
