A teenage boy was rushed to hospital after being stabbed inside a high school in Brampton, Ontario, in an incident that triggered a temporary lockdown and heightened concerns over student safety.
The stabbing occurred on Friday morning at Brampton Centennial Secondary School, located near McMurchy Avenue South and Elgin Drive. Peel Regional Police said officers were called to the scene at approximately 8:24 a.m. after reports of an injured student.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, a male teenager, sustained stab wounds that were described as non-life-threatening. He was treated by emergency responders before being transported to hospital for further care.
Following the incident, the school was immediately placed under lockdown as a precaution, while a nearby school was put under a hold-and-secure order. These safety measures were lifted shortly after 9:30 a.m. once police determined there was no ongoing threat.
Police reported that the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived but was quickly located and taken into custody. Investigators noted that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no broader risk to the public.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed whether the victim and the suspect were known to each other, and the motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
Peel Regional Police are now appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant footage to come forward to assist with the investigation.
