In Nigeria: Zamfara Government Set to Sponsor Mass Wedding for 200 Orphans

Abuja / Gusau — The Zamfara State Government, through its Zakkat and Endowment Board, has announced plans to sponsor a mass wedding ceremony for 200 orphans, a gesture aimed at giving the vulnerable youth a fresh start in life.

According to Malam Habibu Balarabe, Executive Secretary of the Board, the wedding is scheduled for Monday, November 23, 2025, and will be held at the Board’s premises in Gusau. He confirmed that all 200 beneficiaries have already been screened and selected for the event.

In addition to the wedding initiative, the Zakkat Board plans to support 200 women engaged in small-scale businesses by providing grants and starter packs. Balarabe revealed that 100 of these women completed a three-week poultry-farming training and will receive materials to kick-start their ventures.

Further, some of the orphans have undergone computer literacy training and will be given starter packs during the ceremony to support their digital development.

The mass wedding is being framed by state officials not just as a social welfare gesture, but as part of a broader empowerment strategy — one that brings together social protection, economic inclusion, and community upliftment.
