Durham Regional Police have launched a homicide investigation after an incident involving an armed individual in the north end of Oshawa on Saturday evening.

According to investigators, officers responded to reports of an armed person in the area of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. Police have not yet released details about the victim or the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities confirmed that homicide detectives and forensic investigators were deployed to the scene as part of the ongoing investigation. Several police vehicles and emergency crews were seen securing the area late Saturday while officers collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Police have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects as of Saturday night. Investigators are urging residents in the surrounding area to check surveillance cameras, dashcam footage, or cellphone recordings that may assist with the case.

The investigation remains active, and authorities say additional information will be released once next of kin notifications are completed and detectives gather further evidence.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns about violent crime in parts of Durham Region, where police have continued to investigate multiple serious assaults and homicide-related cases over the past year.
