Toronto police have launched a search for two men who fled the scene of a two-vehicle collision in the city's Chinatown neighbourhood early Saturday morning, leaving investigators working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Emergency crews responded to reports of the collision at the intersection of Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street shortly after 5:20 a.m. According to police, the crash involved two vehicles, with two male occupants of one of the vehicles abandoning the scene on foot before officers arrived.
Authorities said the driver of the second vehicle remained at the location and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. One occupant from that vehicle sustained injuries and was transported to hospital. Police described the injuries as non-life-threatening.
Investigators have not released descriptions of the two men who fled or disclosed what may have led to the collision. No arrests have been announced, and officials have not indicated whether criminal charges are expected.
The intersection remained an active investigation scene for several hours as officers documented evidence and examined the damaged vehicles. Police are expected to review witness statements and any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses to assist in identifying the individuals who left the scene.
Leaving the scene of a collision is treated seriously under Ontario law, particularly when injuries are involved. Police routinely urge anyone involved in a traffic collision to remain at the scene and cooperate with investigators.
Residents and motorists in the busy downtown neighbourhood experienced temporary disruptions while emergency responders and investigators worked at the site.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Toronto police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant information to come forward as they continue efforts to locate the two men who fled the scene.
