Fresh concerns have emerged over the health and welfare of Nigerian soldiers being detained over allegations of involvement in a plot to overthrow the administration of Bola Tinubu, as family members claim some detainees are experiencing severe medical complications while in custody.

According to accounts attributed to the soldiers’ wives, several of the detained personnel are reportedly battling deteriorating health conditions, including worsening eyesight, respiratory complications and signs of emotional trauma following prolonged detention.

The families alleged that difficult detention conditions and extended periods without adequate medical attention have contributed to the worsening condition of those being held. They claimed some of the soldiers have begun showing symptoms linked to lung-related illnesses and declining vision.

The allegations come months after Nigerian authorities disclosed investigations into an alleged coup conspiracy involving military personnel and other individuals. The broader case has remained under public scrutiny amid legal and security developments surrounding the accusations.

Relatives of the detained soldiers are now appealing to authorities to allow access to proper healthcare and ensure that detainees receive treatment while legal proceedings continue. They argued that regardless of the allegations, the affected individuals retain the right to humane treatment and access to medical care.

The allegations by family members have not been independently verified, and there was no immediate public response reported from military authorities regarding the latest health claims at the time of publication.

The controversy adds another layer to an already sensitive national security matter that has generated debate over due process, detention conditions and accountability within Nigeria’s security system.

Nigeria has remained under civilian democratic rule since 1999, although authorities earlier announced investigations and legal actions connected to an alleged attempt to undermine the current administration.

The latest claims regarding the detainees’ health were reported by SaharaReporters and attributed to statements made by relatives of the detained soldiers.
