Trump Warns Iran as Peace Talks Stall Amid Expanding Middle East Conflict

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a stern warning to Iran, urging Tehran to move quickly toward a peace agreement as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East following months of conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared that “time is of the essence,” warning that Iran risked devastating consequences if negotiations remained deadlocked. The warning comes as diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing regional war appear increasingly fragile.

The conflict began after coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets on February 28, 2026, triggering retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran against several Gulf states and strategic installations across the region. Although Washington and Tehran agreed to a temporary truce on April 8, negotiations toward a permanent settlement have largely stalled, with sporadic attacks continuing in several theaters of the conflict.

The crisis has significantly disrupted stability in the Gulf region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Analysts estimate that roughly 20 percent of global oil exports pass through the narrow waterway during normal conditions. The ongoing tensions have fueled volatility in international energy markets and raised fears of a broader regional confrontation.

Recent reports indicate that Gulf nations traditionally cautious about direct confrontation with Iran have become increasingly involved in the conflict. According to Western and regional sources, Saudi Arabia reportedly carried out covert retaliatory strikes inside Iran after Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted Saudi civilian infrastructure and energy facilities. The strikes marked one of the first known direct Saudi military actions on Iranian soil.

The United Arab Emirates has also faced sustained Iranian attacks since the outbreak of the war. Reports suggest hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones have targeted Emirati territory in recent months, forcing Gulf nations to strengthen regional defense coordination.

Meanwhile, diplomatic channels remain active despite the hostilities. Several Arab governments continue urging restraint and renewed negotiations to avoid a full-scale regional war that could further destabilize global trade and energy supplies.

Trump’s latest remarks underscore growing frustration in Washington over the lack of progress in talks with Tehran. While the US administration maintains that diplomacy remains possible, officials have repeatedly warned that military pressure could intensify if Iran fails to engage meaningfully in peace negotiations.
