PDP Faction Suspends Bode George, Ex-Deputy Gov Bucknor, 22 Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities in Lagos

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has announced the suspension of prominent party figures, including former Deputy National Chairman Chief Bode George, former Deputy Governor Kofoworola Bucknor, and 22 other chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was reached by the faction’s disciplinary committee after a meeting held in Lagos, where members reportedly reviewed petitions accusing the affected politicians of engaging in conduct considered harmful to party unity and discipline.

According to the resolution, the suspended members are barred from participating in all PDP activities within Lagos State and are no longer permitted to represent the party in any capacity until further notice.

The disciplinary action is part of an ongoing internal power struggle within the Lagos PDP, which has for years been divided into rival factions competing for control of the party structure in the state.

Party insiders say tensions escalated following disagreements over loyalty, political alliances, and alleged cooperation with opposing political blocs ahead of future elections.

The suspension list includes several former and current political office holders and influential grassroots mobilisers, reflecting the scale of the internal crisis currently affecting the opposition party in Lagos.

The faction stated that the action was necessary to restore order, enforce party discipline, and prevent further divisions that could weaken the PDP’s political standing in the state.

However, critics within the party argue that the move could deepen existing rifts and further fragment the Lagos PDP ahead of upcoming electoral contests, where internal unity is seen as critical for competitiveness.

Bode George, a long-time PDP stalwart and former deputy national chairman, has remained one of the most influential and outspoken figures in the party’s South-West structure, often involved in disputes over leadership and direction.

As of the time of filing this report, reactions from the suspended members had not been officially released, and the PDP national leadership has yet to issue a formal statement on the development.

The latest suspension adds to a growing list of disciplinary actions within the party, highlighting ongoing struggles over control and influence within one of Nigeria’s major opposition platforms.
