Residents of the Ikerin/Ajuba axis in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic on Saturday night after heavily armed terrorists reportedly invaded the community, abducting several people while others were feared killed during the attack.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the rural area late at night, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety. Local sources said many villagers remain unaccounted for following the attack, while fears continue to grow over possible casualties and additional kidnappings.
The latest incident adds to the growing wave of insecurity affecting communities in Kwara State in recent months. Security challenges in the region have escalated sharply since the deadly attacks earlier this year on Woro and nearby communities, where hundreds of residents were reportedly killed or abducted by suspected Boko Haram-linked terrorists.
Community members lamented what they described as inadequate security presence in vulnerable rural settlements, noting that repeated attacks have left residents living in fear. Social media reactions following the latest invasion also reflected public frustration over continued kidnappings and killings across parts of North-Central Nigeria.
Although security agencies had yet to release an official casualty figure as of press time, local accounts indicated that several persons may have been killed during the raid, while others were taken away by the gunmen to unknown destinations.
The attack comes amid broader concerns over expanding terrorist and bandit activities across Kwara and neighboring states, with analysts warning that armed groups are increasingly exploiting poorly secured rural communities and forest corridors to carry out coordinated assaults and mass abductions.
