In Nigeria House of Reps Member Reveals Internal Crisis in ADC Coalition After Exit

Fresh cracks have emerged within Nigeria’s opposition coalition after a member of the House of Representatives disclosed reasons behind his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of turning the party into a “personal platform.”

According to reports by Sahara Reporters, the lawmaker said growing internal disagreements and leadership struggles within the coalition contributed to the decision to abandon the party. He alleged that the ADC was increasingly being controlled by individual political interests rather than collective democratic principles.

The comments come at a time of heightened political realignment ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with several opposition figures and lawmakers shifting between parties amid efforts to build stronger coalitions against the ruling government.

The latest revelations add to ongoing instability within the ADC, which has recently experienced defections, leadership disputes, and disagreements over the direction of the party. Reports indicate that prominent politicians, including former presidential candidates, have also distanced themselves from the coalition in recent weeks.

Political analysts say the internal tensions could weaken the opposition’s ability to present a united front ahead of the next election cycle. They note that coalition politics in Nigeria often face challenges linked to competing ambitions, ideological differences, and leadership rivalries.

Supporters of the coalition, however, argue that disagreements are common in political alliances and do not necessarily signal collapse. Some party members insist that restructuring efforts are underway to strengthen internal unity and restore confidence among supporters.

The ADC has increasingly attracted national attention as politicians seek alternative platforms outside the dominant parties. However, recent disputes over leadership and strategy have raised questions about the coalition’s long-term stability.

As political maneuvering intensifies across the country, observers say the coming months will be critical in determining whether opposition groups can overcome internal divisions and build a cohesive platform capable of challenging established political forces in 2027.
