ABU DHABI — Senior leaders in the United Arab Emirates have praised the country’s armed forces for their response to recent Iranian missile and drone attacks, declaring that the UAE remains capable of confronting any threat to its sovereignty and national security.

The remarks were made as the country marked the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces, a milestone celebrated amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing security concerns across the Gulf.

UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan commended military personnel for what he described as their courage, readiness, and professionalism during recent attacks targeting civilian areas and strategic infrastructure. He stated that the armed forces had demonstrated the country’s ability to protect its people, residents, and national interests.

According to official figures released during the anniversary events, UAE defence systems have intercepted hundreds of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones since the conflict intensified earlier this year. Vice President and Dubai ruler Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reflected on the creation of the unified armed forces in 1976, describing it as a historic step that strengthened the nation’s stability and defence structure. He noted that the military has remained central to protecting the UAE during periods of regional instability.

Other senior officials also issued strong statements emphasizing that the UAE’s security and sovereignty are “a red line” and would not be compromised under any circumstances. Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi said the country had shown the world its preparedness and determination in the face of aggression.

The statements come amid renewed tensions between the UAE and Iran following missile and drone incidents linked to the wider Gulf conflict. Recent attacks near the Strait of Hormuz have disrupted shipping operations and heightened fears of broader regional escalation.

The UAE government has repeatedly condemned the attacks and insisted that its international defence partnerships are a sovereign matter. Officials warned that the country reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend itself against threats.

Security analysts say the strong public messaging from Emirati leaders is aimed at reassuring residents and international partners while signaling that the UAE intends to maintain a firm defensive posture despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
