The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned recent statements issued by Iran’s foreign ministry, insisting that its international and defence partnerships are matters of national sovereignty and should not be used as justification for threats or intimidation.
In a statement released by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials rejected what they described as Iranian attempts to interfere in the country’s independent decision-making and security policies. The ministry emphasized that the UAE has the sovereign right to determine its diplomatic and defence relationships without external pressure.
The sharp response comes amid escalating tensions between United Arab Emirates and Iran following recent missile and drone incidents linked to the broader Gulf crisis. Emirati officials warned that any threats against the country’s sovereignty or national security would be firmly rejected.
According to reports, Iran had criticized the UAE’s cooperation with the United States and other international defence partners, claiming such alliances posed security concerns for Tehran. In response, the UAE stressed that no country has the authority to dictate its foreign policy choices or defence arrangements.
The UAE further stated that it reserves the right to take all necessary legal, diplomatic, and defensive measures to protect its territory, citizens, and strategic interests. Officials also described Iranian rhetoric as a violation of international norms and principles governing relations between sovereign states.
The diplomatic dispute follows weeks of heightened instability in the Gulf region, including attacks on shipping routes, missile interceptions, and growing international concern over the security of the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE has repeatedly accused Iran of destabilizing regional security through hostile actions and threats against neighbouring states.
Analysts say the latest exchange underscores the fragile state of relations between Gulf nations and Iran, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a broader ceasefire and restoring regional stability.
As tensions continue, attention remains focused on whether diplomatic negotiations can ease the crisis or whether escalating rhetoric and military posturing could push the region closer to wider confrontation.
