The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied endorsing any candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State, declaring that his political camp has only endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for now.

Wike made this clarification amid growing speculations that he had secretly backed certain aspirants for the Rivers State governorship race. He dismissed the claims, insisting that no individual has received his support for any elective position in the state.

According to him, decisions regarding the selection of candidates for the governorship and other political offices will be made collectively by party stakeholders and elders at the appropriate time, rather than through unilateral endorsements.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that his only confirmed political commitment at the moment is to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike also cautioned party members and supporters against spreading misinformation or claiming endorsements that do not exist, stressing that his public and private positions remain consistent. He warned that premature endorsements could create divisions within the political structure in Rivers State.

The minister further noted that unity remains the strength of his political bloc, adding that there are ongoing efforts by external forces to create disunity among members. He urged stakeholders to remain focused and avoid actions that could weaken their collective position ahead of future elections.

His remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where power struggles and alignments continue to shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

Wike reiterated that when the time comes, party leaders will meet, consult, and decide on the most suitable candidate, maintaining that no individual—including himself—will impose a candidate on the state.
