DUBAI — World leaders have strongly condemned the shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, where U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were evacuated after gunfire was reported at the venue.

The incident, which occurred at the Washington Hilton, triggered swift international reactions, with countries across the globe denouncing the attack and expressing solidarity with the United States.

Saudi Arabia was among the first to respond, issuing a strong statement condemning the shooting and reaffirming its rejection of all forms of violence. The Kingdom also expressed full support for the United States, emphasizing the need to uphold security and stability.

Similarly, United Arab Emirates described the attack as a “deplorable crime,” reiterating its stance against extremism and violence aimed at destabilizing nations.

In Europe, leaders also voiced concern. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni warned against political hatred, stating that such actions have no place in democratic societies. French President Emmanuel Macron called the attack unacceptable, stressing that violence must never undermine democratic values.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed shock at what he described as an attempted assassination, while also expressing relief that the U.S. president and his wife were unharmed.

From Asia, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasized that violence “can never be tolerated anywhere in the world,” echoing global calls for restraint and respect for democratic institutions.

European Union officials also weighed in, with Kaja Kallas stating that political violence has no place in democracy and noting that an event meant to celebrate press freedom should never turn into a scene of fear.

In Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed relief that all attendees were safe, while condemning political violence and extending support to those affected by the incident.

Other global figures, including Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, praised the swift response of security agencies and stressed the importance of protecting democratic spaces and press freedom.

The shooting has sparked renewed global concern about security at major public events involving political leaders, as well as the broader implications of political violence in democratic societies. While no fatalities were reported, the incident has intensified international calls for vigilance and cooperation in safeguarding public institutions.

Investigations into the shooting remain ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
