Saudi Arabia is moving to strengthen its position as a global technology hub following high-level discussions with Swedish telecom giant Ericsson on expanding investments and advancing next-generation digital infrastructure across the Kingdom.

According to the report, Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha met with Ericsson President and CEO Borje Ekholm in Riyadh to explore deeper collaboration in areas including 5G networks, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, automation, and other emerging technologies.

Both sides discussed enhancing ongoing partnerships to boost network capabilities and expand digital capacity, building on years of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Ericsson. The talks also focused on strengthening the Kingdom’s telecommunications ecosystem as part of its broader digital transformation agenda.

Officials highlighted Saudi Arabia’s growing attractiveness as a destination for global technology investment, citing a supportive business environment, large-scale national projects, and a rapidly expanding innovation ecosystem.

Ericsson’s presence in the Kingdom has continued to expand, including the establishment of its regional headquarters in Riyadh and partnerships with government entities and telecom operators to deploy advanced solutions across multiple sectors.

Ekholm emphasized the long-standing relationship between the company and Saudi Arabia, noting that their partnership spans more than five decades and has played a significant role in the development of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure. He also pointed to Saudi Arabia’s leadership in 5G deployment as a key milestone in that collaboration.

The meeting reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing push to diversify its economy beyond oil through investments in digital technology, innovation, and advanced infrastructure. Analysts say strengthening partnerships with global tech firms is central to achieving the country’s long-term economic transformation goals.

As the Kingdom continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies, the collaboration with Ericsson is expected to accelerate the rollout of advanced digital services and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leading player in the global technology landscape.
