Armed bandits have carried out a deadly attack on a community in Southern Kaduna, killing at least two residents and abducting seven others in the latest incident highlighting the worsening security situation in northern Nigeria.
According to reports, the attackers arrived in large numbers and invaded the community, opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen operated for a significant period, moving from house to house before escaping with several victims.
The two victims who lost their lives were reportedly unable to flee during the shooting, while seven others were forcefully taken away by the attackers into nearby forest areas. Some of the kidnapped victims are believed to be members of the same family, raising concerns about their safety and the likelihood of ransom demands.
Residents of the community described the attack as terrifying, noting that people ran in different directions in an attempt to escape. Many expressed frustration over the continued attacks, saying that such incidents have become frequent and are carried out with little resistance.
Southern Kaduna has remained a hotspot for violent attacks involving armed groups, with repeated cases of killings and kidnappings recorded over the years. The region’s difficult terrain and limited security presence have made it easier for attackers to strike and retreat without immediate confrontation.
Community leaders and residents have again called on the Nigerian government and security agencies to strengthen protection in vulnerable areas, improve rapid response efforts, and intensify operations against criminal groups responsible for the violence.
As of the time of this report, security authorities have not released an official detailed statement on the attack, but efforts are expected to be underway to track the perpetrators and secure the safe release of those abducted.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns about safety in rural communities across northern Nigeria, where ongoing attacks continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.
