The Nigerian Army has paid tribute to officers and soldiers who were killed during recent attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, as the military held burial ceremonies to honour the fallen troops.
According to reports, the soldiers died while engaged in counter-terrorism operations against insurgents in northeastern Nigeria. The Nigerian Army described the deceased personnel as brave heroes who paid the supreme price while defending the nation against terrorism.
Military authorities said the burial was conducted with full honours in line with army tradition, recognizing the sacrifices made by the fallen officers and soldiers during the fight against Boko Haram militants.
The deaths come amid renewed insurgent attacks across parts of Borno State, where extremist groups have continued to launch assaults on military formations and communities. In recent days, several attacks were reported in areas including Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok, where troops engaged insurgents in intense battles.
Military officials said the soldiers who died during the clashes demonstrated courage and commitment while confronting the insurgents. The army reaffirmed its determination to continue operations against terrorist groups operating in the region.
Borno State remains the epicentre of Nigeria’s long-running Boko Haram insurgency, which began in 2009 and has led to thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions across northeastern Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
Despite repeated military offensives over the years, Boko Haram and its splinter faction Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) continue to carry out attacks on military bases, villages, and infrastructure in the region.
The Nigerian Army extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and assured Nigerians that the sacrifice of the troops would not be in vain as the military intensifies operations aimed at defeating insurgent groups.
Military authorities also urged citizens to support security agencies by providing useful information that could help in the ongoing fight against terrorism across the country.
