The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticised the administration of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the government of failing to address the country’s worsening security crisis despite spending millions of dollars on foreign lobbyists.

In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said no amount of public relations efforts abroad could hide the reality of insecurity facing Nigerians across the country.

Abdullahi criticised the government over reports that it spent $9 million on lobbying firms in the United States, arguing that such spending cannot erase the growing number of terrorist attacks and killings occurring in different parts of Nigeria.

“You can pay lobbyists $9 million to repackage you, but you cannot whitewash the facts,” Abdullahi said in a statement shared on social media.

He further alleged that more Nigerians have been killed by terrorists under the current administration than at any other time in the country’s history, insisting that the government must confront the security crisis instead of focusing on image-building efforts abroad.

The opposition party also raised concerns about the country’s economic situation, claiming that over 135 million Nigerians are currently living in poverty, which it said reflects worsening living conditions under the current administration.

ADC argued that continued attacks by terrorists, bandits, and armed groups in various parts of the country demonstrate serious weaknesses in Nigeria’s security architecture. The party said the frequency and scale of these attacks show that existing strategies to combat terrorism and banditry have not been effective.

Recent months have seen deadly attacks across several states, including Kwara, Katsina, and parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have carried out killings, kidnappings, and village raids.

The ADC therefore called on the federal government to be transparent with Nigerians about the true state of national security and present concrete plans to address the rising violence across the country.

The party emphasized that protecting citizens’ lives and property is the primary responsibility of any government, warning that failure to provide security undermines public confidence in leadership.
