KADUNA — The widow of Ibrahim Gajere, the slain Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area in Kaduna State, has rejected reports that her husband was killed by bandits, insisting instead that he was assassinated in a targeted attack.

Speaking publicly after the incident, Mrs. Asebe Ibrahim Gajere said the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death did not align with typical bandit attacks, which authorities had initially suggested were responsible. She argued that the killing was deliberate and politically motivated, stating that her husband was “assassinated, not killed by bandits.”

According to her account, the late chairman had previously received threats related to his political activities and leadership position, raising concerns that his death may have been orchestrated rather than part of random violence. She called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover those responsible.

The killing has sparked renewed tension in Kajuru and surrounding communities in Southern Kaduna, an area that has experienced repeated security crises over the years involving armed attacks, kidnappings and communal violence.

Local residents and political observers have also demanded greater transparency from security agencies, urging the government to clarify the circumstances of the attack and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

As of the time of reporting, official authorities have not publicly confirmed the widow’s allegations of assassination, and security agencies have yet to release detailed findings from their investigation into the incident.

The tragedy adds to the continuing security concerns in parts of Kaduna State, where attacks by armed groups and targeted killings have repeatedly threatened local communities and political leaders.
