KANO, Nigeria — Fear and тревation gripped residents of Kano State after armed gunmen launched a brazen midnight operation, abducting a senior local government official in a carefully orchestrated attack on his residence.
The victim, identified as the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, was kidnapped in the early hours of Friday during a violent raid on his home in Dinya town. The incident, which occurred around 1:00 a.m., has once again exposed the deepening insecurity crisis across northern Nigeria.
According to local sources, the attackers executed the operation with calculated precision. They reportedly forced the secretary’s son who had been sleeping outside the main building to lure his father out by pretending to be in distress. Believing his son needed urgent help, the official opened the door, only to be seized immediately by the waiting gunmen.
The assailants initially abducted both the father and son but later released the boy, escaping with the local government secretary before security operatives could respond.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the kidnappers or establish contact for ransom negotiations, but the incident has heightened fears among residents who once considered the Kibiya area relatively peaceful. Neighbouring local government areas, particularly those bordering Katsina State, have in recent times witnessed repeated bandit attacks, raising concerns that criminal networks are expanding their reach.
