DUBAI/ABU DHABI — As the Middle East conflict escalates beyond regional battlefields, Iranian drone and missile strikes against major transportation hubs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have resulted in fatalities and multiple injuries, including at Dubai International Airport and Zayed International Airport, according to local and international reporting. The attacks unfolded amid continued hostilities linked to broader U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran.
UAE authorities confirmed that many was killed and at least 11 others were injured after Iranian missiles and drones struck airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with debris from intercepted projectiles reported to have impacted civilian areas. The incidents occurred as part of a wave of attacks in which Iranian forces fired hundreds of drones and missiles toward Gulf states in retaliation for strikes on their territory.
In Abu Dhabi, a drone strike on Zayed International Airport — the primary aviation hub serving the nation’s capital — resulted in at least one confirmed fatality and several wounded, prompting widespread disruption and temporary airport closure. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport sustained damage to a concourse and saw several airport workers injured as authorities moved to contain the situation.
The strikes also caused disruptions far beyond airport grounds, with fire and smoke reported in port infrastructure and luxury districts such as Jebel Ali and Palm Jumeirah in Dubai as debris from intercepted projectiles fell across populated areas. Emirati and local media offices confirmed that defensive systems successfully intercepted much of the incoming ordnance, but falling fragments still inflicted casualties and structural damage.
The attacks have forced widespread airspace closures in the Gulf region, grounding flights at key hubs including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Kuwait City, and stranding tens of thousands of travellers amid global travel disruption. Major carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways suspended services as precautionary measures.
The UAE government condemned the strikes as a violation of national sovereignty and international law, recalling its ambassador from Tehran and closing its Iranian embassy. Officials reiterated their commitment to defending civilian infrastructure and urged residents and visitors to follow safety advisories amid the deteriorating security situation.
This incident marks a stark extension of the conflict’s impact into civilian economic and transportation hubs, underscoring the widening scope of military operations throughout the Middle East and the challenges faced by governments seeking both security and stability.
