The Lagos State Police Command has refunded ₦150,000 to a woman who accused officers from a police tactical squad of abducting and extorting money from her and her friends in Lagos.

According to police authorities, the refund followed a complaint made by the woman, who alleged that the officers unlawfully detained her and her companions and demanded money before releasing them.

The incident reportedly sparked public outrage after the woman shared details of the alleged encounter with the officers. She claimed that members of the tactical squad stopped her and two friends, detained them, and demanded ₦800,000 as bail before they could regain their freedom.

Following the allegations, the Lagos State Police Command said it launched an internal investigation into the conduct of the officers involved. Authorities confirmed that ₦150,000 collected during the incident had been returned to the complainant, while disciplinary procedures against the officers are ongoing.

Police officials also stated that the command is committed to maintaining professionalism and accountability within the force. They assured the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct or abuse of power would face appropriate sanctions under the law.

The case has reignited public concerns about extortion and abuse by some police officers in Nigeria, a problem that has repeatedly drawn criticism from civil society groups and human rights organizations.

Authorities said the investigation into the matter is still ongoing as the command reviews the circumstances surrounding the incident and the actions of the officers involved.
