A powerful explosion has struck Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran, Iran’s capital, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and causing fires around parts of the airport facility.

According to reports, the blast occurred amid an intensifying wave of airstrikes targeting Tehran as the war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States continues to escalate across the Middle East. Witnesses said several aircraft at the airport were seen burning as heavy smoke rose from the site following the explosion.

Mehrabad Airport, one of Iran’s main aviation hubs used primarily for domestic flights and some military operations, has previously been targeted during the ongoing conflict. Military sources said strikes in the area were aimed at infrastructure linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard forces, which allegedly use the airport for logistics and operations.

Israeli officials reportedly said the attack targeted military infrastructure at the airport, claiming it served as a hub used to arm and support regional proxy forces. The strikes were said to have destroyed several aircraft associated with Iran’s Quds Force, a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The explosions mark one of the most significant attacks on Tehran’s aviation infrastructure since the conflict began. The broader war has already led to multiple strikes on military facilities, airports, and strategic sites across Iran, raising fears of further escalation across the region.

Authorities in Iran have not yet released official casualty figures from the latest explosion, but emergency services were reportedly dispatched to the airport as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The incident adds to growing concerns about the expanding regional war, which has already disrupted air travel, energy markets, and security across several Middle Eastern countries. Analysts warn that continued attacks on strategic infrastructure such as airports could further intensify the conflict and increase global instability.
