The international community has thrown its weight behind Nigeria’s campaign against terrorism, with the United States Government, French Government and United Kingdom Government now providing technical support to the country’s security operations, according to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu made the disclosure in Kontagora, Niger State, during a visit involving church leaders and the parents of children abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic School, Papiri. The gathering underscored the urgency of the crises confronting Nigeria — kidnappings, banditry, and insurgency across multiple regions. He emphasised that Nigeria is not fighting alone and reassured that “the whole world stands with us.
The support reportedly includes advanced intelligence sharing, technical assistance, and possibly expedited delivery of equipment to bolster ongoing operations against terrorist groups and violent armed outfits.
Ribadu said the federal government has mobilised all necessary resources to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and to intensify efforts in rescuing other victims. He added that President Bola Tinubu had paused official engagements to personally oversee the response, underscoring the high-stakes nature of recent threats.
Civil and religious-community leaders present at the meeting voiced cautious optimism. Many described the external support as a welcome demonstration of international solidarity — but also reiterated calls for long-term accountability, structural reforms, and protection for victims and vulnerable communities.
The announcement marks a notable shift in Nigeria’s security strategy: beyond domestic operations, the government is now explicitly leveraging diplomatic and international alliances to enhance its capacity against insurgency, banditry and terror.
