Gov Adeleke Resigns from PDP Amid Internal Party Crisis

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing entrenched leadership turmoil at the party’s national level as the basis for his decision.

In a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the ward chairmen of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede North Local Government Area, Adeleke said the persistent crisis within the PDP’s national leadership made it untenable for him to remain a member.

The timing of the resignation coming less than 24 hours before the party’s governorship primary election adds a new layer of complexity to the internal wranglings within the PDP in Osun State. State party officials earlier disclosed that the primary scheduled for December 2 may not hold due to the factional impasse.

The move appears to mark a definitive break between Adeleke and the national leadership of the PDP, ending repeated denials in earlier months that he planned to abandon the party. In July 2025, the governor had publicly stated he had “no plans to leave the PDP.”

The implications of his resignation for both Osun’s political landscape and the broader fortunes of the PDP could be far-reaching, especially with the 2026 gubernatorial election in view. It remains unclear whether Adeleke intends to join another political platform or will run as an independent candidate, though speculations of a defection to the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) have begun to surface.
