Suspected terrorists have abducted seven construction workers, including two officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Works, after storming a building site in Oba community in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, local sources told DalenaReporters and corroborated by independent reporting.
According to residents familiar with the incident, the attackers struck on Tuesday, overrunning the construction site without immediate resistance and forcing the workers into nearby bush paths. “The attackers came suddenly, overpowered the workers and marched them into the bush,” a witness said, describing the assailants as well-armed and organised.
Among the seven abducted victims are two staff members of the Kwara State Ministry of Works who were on duty at the time of the assault, while the identities of the other five workers have not yet been disclosed. As of this report, it remains unclear whether the kidnappers have contacted the families of the abductees or issued any ransom demands.
Neither the Kwara State Government nor the Kwara State Police Command had issued an official statement on the abductions at the time of filing. Efforts to obtain comments from state communication officials and security spokespersons were unsuccessful.
The attack highlights escalating insecurity in parts of Kwara State, where communities in the north-central region have increasingly faced kidnappings, raids and terror-linked activities by criminal gangs in recent months. Local residents and analysts warn that rural communities remain vulnerable, with sporadic warnings of insurgent presence and limited effective security coverage.
This latest abduction comes amid a broader pattern of insecurity that has plagued the state, including earlier kidnappings in other communities — underscoring persistent threats to safety and economic activity in agricultural and construction zones.
As affected families await news of the abducted workers, civil society groups and security observers have renewed calls for urgent reinforcement of protection measures, improved intelligence operations and stronger presence of security forces in remote areas to prevent further attacks and facilitate rescue efforts.
