In a tight semifinal at the Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna, Spain national tennis team defeated Germany national tennis team 2-1 to reach their first final since 2019. Spain’s doubles pair of Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez clinched the title-deciding match with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
Spain began strongly with Pablo Carreno Busta defeating Jan‑Lennard Struff 6-4, 7-6(6), saving five set points in the tiebreak. Germany’s Alexander Zverev then kept his side alive by beating Jaume Munár 7-6(2), 7-6(5).
Despite missing world-number-one Carlos Alcaraz through injury, Spain showed great resilience. Captain David Ferrer praised his squad’s fighting spirit while pointing ahead to the final against defending champions Italy national tennis team, who reached the final by defeating Belgium.
For Italy, the final presents a chance to win a third consecutive Davis Cup title. Spain, meanwhile, will be aiming to add a seventh title to their record.
The final is scheduled for Sunday in Bologna.
