Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rejects Sule Lamido’s Call to Dissolve Its National Working Committee

ABUJA — The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally rejected calls by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido for the dissolution of the party’s new National Working Committee (NWC) and the installation of a caretaker leadership.

Lamido had on Thursday issued a 10-day ultimatum to the party’s national officers demanding the Ibadan-convened NWC be scrapped, and replaced with a caretaker committee, citing what he described as improper exclusion of long-standing party stakeholders and disregard for internal democracy.

In response, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary appointed at the Ibadan convention, Ini Ememobong, dismissed Lamido’s proposal as incompatible with the party constitution and the present legal status of ongoing court proceedings that leave the NWC’s mandate intact.

Ememobong argued that Lamido’s demand is particularly untenable given that multiple court cases including separate actions by different factions are already before the appellate courts, making any unilateral dissolution or formation of a caretaker committee impractical and legally unsustainable.

The rejection deepens the ongoing crisis in Nigeria’s oldest major opposition party, with proponents for Lamido arguing the Ibadan convention lacked transparency and fairness, while the convention’s defenders maintain it followed due process and remains valid until the courts decide.

Dalena Reporters will continue to follow reactions from Lamido’s camp, party elders, legal observers and the National Working Committee — and report on whether the dispute will further escalate or be resolved through negotiations or court rulings.
