Godswill Akpabio declares himself “highest-ranked Christian in government.

Date: 29 November 2025

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has publicly described himself as the “most-ranked Christian in government,” saying his rise from “nobody” to Senate President is a testament to what he calls “the special grace of God.

Speaking at the blessing and official commissioning of the Regina Coeli Parish Rectory in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio — a devout Catholic — urged Nigerians to remain faithful and committed to God, regardless of their status or position. He said the Church remains a powerful institution for transformation and encouraged contributions to church development.

He appealed to citizens to trust in divine possibilities, stating: “If God can raise me from a nobody to be the President of the Senate and, by extension, the number-three citizen of this great country, He can do it for us all.

As the leader of Nigeria’s legislative upper chamber, Akpabio’s religious declaration adds a faith-anchored dimension to his public persona — a move that may resonate with many among Nigeria’s Christian population, while also drawing scrutiny given the country’s religious diversity and sensitive balance in public office.

Dalena Reporters will monitor reactions from religious, political and civil-society circles as this statement circulates.
