Gusau / Abuja — The Zamfara State Police Command, in a coordinated night-raid, successfully rescued 50 abducted civilians — including 10 women and 40 children — after suspected bandits attacked Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area.
According to the police, the assault unfolded on Friday, November 21, 2025, at around 9:45 p.m. Operatives from the Damba Division, the Department of Operations in Gusau, and the Community Protection Guards (CPG) responded promptly after receiving a distress alert.
The joint security teams pursued and engaged the assailants, eventually rescuing all 25 abducted victims unhurt. After the operation, the rescued were relocated to Sabongari Damba for profiling and reunification with their families.
Zamfara’s Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the “gallantry and professionalism” of his officers. He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and intensifying efforts against banditry in the state.
The incident underscores the persistent insecurity in northwestern Nigeria, where armed bandits frequently launch raids for ransom, targeting vulnerable communities.
