NCAA Launches Probe Into In-Flight Brawl Between Influencers VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof

Abuja — The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has initiated a preliminary investigation into the violent altercation involving social media personalities Martins Vincent Otse (known as VeryDarkMan) and Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi (Mr Jollof) aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight, after a video of the confrontation went viral.

According to NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the regulator has asked its officers in Asaba — where the incident occurred — to obtain and submit a full report detailing the actions taken by aviation security, the pilot, and other relevant personnel before, during, and after the clash.

Achimugu emphasized that while the NCAA does not have prosecutorial powers, it will recommend that United Nigeria Airlines blacklist the two men from future flights if warranted. He also said the authority plans to write to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to consider prosecution.

United Nigeria Airlines, in its own statement, confirmed that the crew intervened professionally, deboarded both passengers, and handed them over to airport security in line with international safety protocols.

This escalation comes amid rising regulatory scrutiny by the NCAA: the aviation body has in recent months stepped up enforcement of Part 19 of its regulations, which governs passenger rights and safety.

The incident has sparked broad public discussion about unruly behaviour in aviation and the responsibility of influencers, with the NCAA’s response now expected to set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving aviation sector.
