LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed it has identified the police officer involved in a video showing a violent assault on a bus conductor inside a commercial bus in Ikorodu, Lagos, and has launched a formal investigation into the matter.
The video — widely shared on social media — shows the officer pinning the conductor to the bus while passengers plead for him to stop, with some shouting warnings that the man was suffocating and could die. Authorities say the incident began when the bus reportedly blocked traffic and obstructed officials from performing their duties. During the attempted arrest, the conductor allegedly stripped himself naked to resist arrest in a bid to escape — a moment captured in the footage.
In its statement, the police announced that the bus has been impounded and the conductor contacted to appear before the Commissioner of Police for interview. The identified officer remains under investigation, as the Command assesses whether his conduct was appropriate given the circumstances.
The Command called on members of the public to report any perceived violation of their rights and assured that justice would be served, while also warning that resisting lawful arrest is a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
Dalena Reporters will continue to follow this story and publish updates as the investigation progresses.
