In a harrowing pre-dawn assault, terrorists stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting 25 female students and killing the school’s vice-principal, according to the Kebbi State Police Command.
Police said the attack occurred at 4:00 a.m., as heavily armed assailants opened fire to breach the school compound. In the ensuing gun battle, terrorists scaled the hostels’ fence and forcibly removed the girls.
The slain vice-principal, Hassan Makuku, was reportedly shot while trying to defend students. A guard, named Ali Shehu, was also wounded in the attack.
In response to the incident, the Kebbi Police Command has mobilized additional tactical units, working alongside the military and local vigilante groups, to launch a coordinated rescue operation. The search is currently focused on suspected escape routes and nearby forest areas.
Authorities are calling on residents to stay calm and assist security agencies, while urging the federal and state governments to intervene swiftly and secure the safe return of the abducted students.
This latest school kidnapping adds to a growing pattern of terror attacks in northwestern Nigeria, intensifying concern over the persistent threat of banditry in the region.
