Detectives from the Nigeria Police Force have conducted a search of the Abuja apartment belonging to former Senator Elisha Abbo following allegations that he raped a 13-year-old Secondary School student. The operation, led by officers from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), took place at Abbo’s residence in the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory. The alleged incident is said to have occurred on June 29, 2025, and the matter is now the subject of a full investigation.
The schoolgirl’s parents have accused Abbo of attempting to suppress the case, claiming he offered financial inducements to the child’s father to keep the situation under wraps. They also allege that prominent political figures, including former governorship aspirant Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed “Binani,” tried to mediate and influence them to withdraw the complaint. The girl’s family insists they will not be intimidated.
In a counterclaim, Abbo’s wife has accused the alleged victim of theft, alleging that valuables were stolen from their home and pointing to this as her reason for resisting claims of rape. Abbo himself has denied ever being arrested, stating that reports of his detention are false and part of a smear campaign by political enemies. He maintains that he was present at the residence on the date in question.
Civil society groups, child rights activists, and legal observers have called for a transparent, thorough investigation into the allegations. They demand that any inquiry be free of political interference, with full protection for the victim and following due process as guaranteed by law.
