Internal Crisis: PDP Says National Secretary Anyanwu’s Role “Is to Provide Diesel, Keep Parking Spaces”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pushed back on claims of internal crisis, insisting that any tensions stem from a “misconception of roles” within the party. Addressing journalists in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, clarified that Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary, is limited to administrative functions and does not have authority to call meetings or act independently of the National Chairman, Umar Damagun.

Ologunagba explained that the PDP constitution outlines Anyanwu’s responsibilities as supervising daily party activities, maintaining records, issuing notices of meetings, and executing directives from higher organs. He used illustrative language, saying that if there’s no diesel for the party office or parking areas needing organization, those tasks fall under the National Secretary’s domain.

He emphasized that the role is not one of political initiative, but support — “if the Chairman says ‘summon a meeting,’ the Secretary issues the notice, but he cannot summon meetings on his own, or issue press statements independently,” Ologunagba said.

Responding to two competing letters that had stoked speculation, Ologunagba reiterated that there is no internal crisis in the PDP. He described the tension as possibly arising from misunderstanding of structure and authority, and urged calm, insisting the party remains stable.
