UAE Adds New Visa Categories: What Travelers & Expats Need To Know


In a bid to attract global talent, streamline family visits, and boost the country’s business and logistics sectors, the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) has introduced significant amendments to its visa and residency rules.  

 

What are the new visa categories? 

If you are planning a visit, moving for work, or inviting family or friends to the UAE, here’s everything you need to know: 

Special visit visas

To attract global talent to the UAE’s growing creative and tech sectors, new visit visa categories have been introduced for specialists in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI). 
  • Entertainment. 
  • Event management.  
  • Cruise ship and leisure boat sectors. 

Humanitarian residence permit

  • This new permit is valid for one year and is eligible for potential renewal. 
  • It supports individuals with humanitarian needs, granted at the discretion of the ICP under specific conditions. 

Residency for foreign widows or divorcees

  • Foreign nationals who are widowed or divorced from UAE residents can now apply for a one-year residence permit. 
  • Permit is eligible for renewal for another year, provided certain eligibility conditions are met. 

Visit visa for friends or relatives

  • Visitors can now be sponsored by friends or relatives up to the third degree of kinship. 
  • The sponsor must meet minimum income thresholds.

Business exploration visa

This visa is designed for entrepreneurs and investors. To qualify, you must demonstrate: 

  • Financial solvency. 
  • Ownership in a company abroad / proven business/professional experience.

Truck driver visa

A practical addition to support trade and transport industries. It requires:

  • A UAE-based sponsor. 
  • Health and financial guarantees.
