Nigerian Bar Association Demands Probe Into Death of ARISE TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu

Dalena Reporters – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the death of ARISE TV anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was fatally injured during an armed robbery at her Abuja residence on September 29, 2025. The NBA condemned the incident as a tragic reflection of Nigeria's escalating insecurity and alleged medical negligence.

In a statement issued by NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the association described Maduagwu's death as a "cruel and senseless act" that occurred in the supposed safety of her home. The NBA further alleged that medical negligence may have contributed to her death, citing reports that she was denied urgent treatment at a hospital due to the unavailability of identification documents.

The association demanded accountability for both the armed robbery and the alleged medical negligence, emphasizing the need for a responsive and humane healthcare system. The NBA also reiterated its call for the government to prioritize the protection of lives and property.

Maduagwu, 29, was a trained lawyer and a rising star in Nigerian journalism. Her death has sparked outrage across the legal community and media industry, with many calling for swift justice.
