Ebola Scare: Nigeria on High Alert as Suspected Cases Test Negative — NCDC

Abuja, Nigeria — Nigeria’s health authorities have placed the country on high alert following fears of a possible Ebola outbreak. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed that all suspected cases reported recently have tested negative for the deadly virus.

The alert was triggered after individuals showing Ebola-like symptoms were flagged in parts of the country. Samples were immediately collected and subjected to laboratory testing, raising initial fears of a resurgence of the disease that devastated parts of West Africa between 2014 and 2016.

In a statement, the NCDC assured Nigerians that there is no confirmed case of Ebola virus disease in the country. However, the agency emphasized the importance of vigilance, rapid reporting, and strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent any potential outbreak.

“Nigeria remains on high alert. Our surveillance and emergency response systems are active, and health workers have been placed on notice to respond swiftly to any suspected case,” the NCDC stated.

Health experts also reminded the public of preventive measures, including maintaining proper hygiene, avoiding contact with bushmeat, and reporting unusual illnesses to health facilities.

The Ministry of Health has also reiterated its collaboration with international partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO) to strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness and response capacity.

For now, citizens have been urged to remain calm as authorities continue close monitoring. The negative test results have provided temporary relief, but health officials warn that constant vigilance is crucial to protect public health.
